Hornaments

HORNAMENTS is the event of the season for Hornists! This year's event will take place on Saturday, December 6, in Little Rock. HORNAMENTS is a no-pressure, fun opportunity for horn players of all ages to get together and share some Christmas spirit with each other and with others as we rehearse and perform holiday tunes.

Hornaments was an event started in the 1990s by Caroline Kinsey, formerly the principal hornist of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra and IHS Arkansas Area Rep. (She is now a member of the Memphis Symphony). Since assuming those duties in 2001, Brent Shires has endeavored to continue the tradition each year. Hornaments is made possible with the assistance and support of the University of Central Arkansas Horn Club, the University of Arkansas - Little Rock Music Department, the International Horn Society, and Park Plaza Mall.

9:00-9:30am - Arrival, registration, donuts and individual warm-up (UALR Band Room, Fine Arts Center)
9:30am-12:00pm - Rehearsal at UALR Band Room
12:15pm-1:45pm - Lunch (IHOP - corner of Markham and University)
2:00pm - 2:30pm - Setup
2:30pm - 3:30pm - Performance at Park Plaza Mall (northwest corner of University and Markham)

Note: The performance may start earlier if the previous group is a no-show.

There is no cost to participate in HORNAMENTS, but lunch money is needed. Dress should be nice, casual, and most certainly as festive as you dare! Red and green are the operative colors. Animated Santa hats, electric lights, and all manner of crazy (but legal) holiday decorations are encouraged. Deck the horns, too!

Please bring a music stand. Music will be provided. For those being dropped off in the morning, rides can be arranged between locations.

Directions to UALR via I-40 East (from Conway, Russellville, etc.)

1. Start out going South on S DONAGHEY AVE toward SESAME ST. (0.34 miles)
2. Turn LEFT onto AR-286/ HARTJE LN. Continue to follow AR-286. (1.97 miles)
3. Merge onto I-40 E/ US-65 S. (18.46 miles)
4. Merge onto I-430 S via exit number 147. (6.23 miles)
5. Merge onto I-630 E via exit number 6 toward DOWNTOWN/ BAPTIST MED. CENTER/ UNIVERSITY AVE. (3.50 miles)
6. Take the exit- exit number 5- toward UNIVERSITY AVE. (0.25 miles)
7. Keep RIGHT at the fork in the ramp. (0.04 miles<)/li>
8. Merge onto S UNIVERSITY AVE. (1.14 miles)
9. Turn LEFT onto 28th St. (0.01 miles)
10. Turn RIGHT onto CAMPUS DR. The Fine Arts Building will be the first building on the right.

Directions to UALR via I-40 West (from North Little Rock, Jacksonville, etc.)

1. From I-40 W., merge onto I-30 W/ US-65 S/ US-167 S via exit number 153B- on the left- toward LITTLE ROCK. (3.03 miles)
2. Merge onto I-630 W via exit number 139B. (4.95 miles)
3. Take the UNIVERSITY AVE. SOUTH exit- exit number 5B. (0.15 miles)
4. Merge onto S UNIVERSITY AVE. (1.29 miles)
5. Turn LEFT onto 28th St. (0.01 miles)
6. Turn RIGHT onto CAMPUS DR. The Fine Arts Building will be the first building on the right.
